Vígadó Concert Hall (Vígadó) Budapest
The Vígadó Concert Hall was built in 1859-64. The hall has witnessed many premiers and performances by internationally renowned artists, and it still is a major concert venue today.
The building was badly damaged by fire towards the end of the Second World War and, although the Romantic exterior was reconstructed as original the inside was completely redesigned, though, as a reflection of how long it took to complete some post-war reconstruction, the building did not actually open until 1980.
The richly decorated exterior includes reliefs of dancers on the columns and, along the frieze-like edge, a series of busts of various Hungarian rulers and prominent personalities.
